The Day Has Come!

I am so relieved and thankful that my unemployment status is OVER! I am excited to say that I finally got a job. It seems to be right up my alley as a Director of Member Services for the Home Builders Association. This will be a wonderful opportunity to take my career to the next level. I’m not quite sure what I will exactly be doing, but at this point, I’m sure anything would be sufficient after being unemployed for 6 months. Yikes! I am so thankful to God for giving me a reason to stay hopeful and patient throughout the long journey. I also have awesome friends and a church group that have been my support. Thank you everyone!

So I start this wonderful job on Tuesday, May 27th. I will have more of a commute that I’m used to, but that’s okay. I feel so bad for all the people that are getting laid off or not able to stay busy enough to keep their businesses flourishing. Times are tough! I can’t even imagine what it’s like for the families that have no savings and barely made it while working. I am definitely more compassionate and sympathetic now, understanding what it feels like to not know where I was going to end up. One thing I did learn is that no matter what stage of life you’re in, if you give of yourself and your resources, IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU! Once again, IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU! Try it! Give to someone that needs a little boost…give to your church…volunteer…put someone else’s needs ahead of your own. You will not be sorry! And when it’s all said and done, you will feel so good!

Making Memories – One Moment at a Time!

About two weeks ago, the boys and I drove by a small man-made lake in our community. It is surrounded by a large area of grass, trees and some benches. The kids said, “Mom, will you take us there?” Normally, when I’m working and it seems there is never enough time to breathe, I would have replied with, “Maybe” or “Yeah, someday”. However, I felt so good responding immediately with, “Sure. We can ride our bikes there today.” They were amazed I said yes so quickly. They weren’t used to that.

So we got home and got the tires pumped up on our bikes, and off we went. Christian just learned to ride without his training wheels, so he was really proud that he road such a long way. Jayson followed beside him to make sure he didn’t fall (it was so cute). It was amazing that something so basic - taking only one hour of my afternoon – could make my kids so excited. When we got there, to my amazement, there were ducks. They thought we had bread, so they came running/quacking up to us. I didn’t bring bread because I didn’t know there were ducks in the lake. It was too cute though because Christian got such a kick out of watching them follow us and all follow each other.

We walked around the water, holding hands, and just enjoyed the beautiful day by the lake. Jayson tried to climb a tree and Christian, of course, followed suit. We decided that we would come back another day soon and bring bread with us. I also pondered something very important…that nothing in life is more gratifying than taking the time to give your kids a memory…now every time we pass the lake, they say, “Can we go there again, mom?” OF COURSE WE CAN…WE NEED TO TAKE TIME TO “SMELL THE ROSES”!

My little man, Jayson, is turning 9 today! Wasn’t it just yesterday that I struggled to get him out at 10 lbs. 9 oz. at birth? I am so grateful and blessed to have him as my son. My “A” student is another year older…another year smarter…another year mature. He gets embarassed when I drop him off at school and call out his name to tell him something after he steps out of the car. He doesn’t give me tons of hugs and kisses anymore – good thing I still have a 4 year old, for that matter. He has posters pinned on his wall, which I never thought I would let my kids do. He LOVES music and his IPOD and can get down and boogy pretty good (he has rhythm)! There has only been one trip to the ER with a cut leg…thank God! His new obsession with skateboarding worries me though. Can I ever protect him enough? Boys will be boys…with owies…the will to challenge themselves…the urge to be better than the next kid. All I can hope and pray for is that I raise a caring, respectful and loving boy. So far so good…

Job, are you out there?

Well, it’s been almost 5 months since I got laid off. I never imagined it would be like this. I have skills, brains, determination, loyalty…what else do I need? Is it what’s meant to be that I stay home longer with my wonderful boys…is it the declining economy…what is it? I ask myself this question daily and get disgusted from time to time. I’m a single mom now and need employment more than ever. “Hello God, are you there? It’s me, Tisha!” I can’t help but think this way every now and again. Everyone said, to make me feel better, which I understand, “Oh, there’s something better out there for you.” Is there?

I question myself over and over as to whether or not there is something else I’m supposed to be learning here. I need a sign from God that a job is coming soon. Of course, what we need isn’t always what happens, but I pray for God’s mercy. It’s scary being unemployed! I CAN’T get discouraged! My faith will go on…
